Gia Coppola is a screenwriter and film director. Bearing the name of a royal cinematographic family as the granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola, many might say that Gia was destined to find herself behind a camera. After graduating from Bard College with a BFA in photography, Gia explored image making in fashion, first as a photographer and later as a filmmaker. She started her career shooting content for such brands as Opening Ceremony and Rodarte. In 2013 she released her collaboration with James Franco, Palo Alto, which was met with critical acclaim at the Venice, Telluride and Toronto film festivals. Her most recent feature, Mainstream, was nominated for best film at the Venice Film Festival.
Proceeds of Gia’s T-shirts will benefit Allies in Arts, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support artists who are womxn, BIPOC and LGBTQQIA2S — all of whom are underrepresented in creative industries. Artists from these communities face barriers as a direct result of race, gender, sex, and sexual orientation, which Allies in Arts seek to break down by awarding grants, curating exhibitions and screenings, and connecting artists with the decision-makers who can hire them.
